Hello to all the Wannabees
On call for work and mainly laziness had me missing all the rides this weekend.
I am sure that most were depressed at the loss, but on the other hand, had an idea that the Bulls were the best team.
Sevens also managed to lose in the quarterfinal again. Fortunately the Proteas managed a win or two over the bumbling West Indies.
Seeing them drop every catch last night makes one wonder about ability vs. match fixing. After logging onto the BLOG and watching the U-TUBE clip on bike doping, one can only wonder what will be next. If anyone can get me one of those, I might also be able to keep up with the speedsters in the club.
A date for next outride for mountain bikers has not been fixed, so watch the BLOG for news
Otherwise, just the usual reminders
DOUBLE CENTUARY.
Please remember to reply to John re entries for the DC
PLEASE TRY TO COMMIT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO MAKE THE SELECTION OF TEAMS EASIER AND GET THE TRAINING GROUPS OUT SOONER
We have set the 15th of June as a cut off date for team commitment and payment of R150.

100 MILER MTB
If anyone thought of doing the 100 miler its too late.(you snooze you loose) The race started very relaxed with everyone chatting. After the first water point the roads opened up. For some fast flow riding to a breakfast stop where some coffee and muffins were devoured by all. Mountain goat heaven for a few km's and the open road again and on to water point 3 potatoes, bananas, oranges ect.
Flowing roads were the order of the day water point 4 had water shortage but overflowed with coke and the endurance kicked in from 80km working to keep your body going through the delicate stage to water point 5 at about 140 km. Turning home was just too sweet but a slight misjudgment and my tyre was cut with 6km to go. I fitted a tube and we were on our way going as fast as possible because I could hear my tyre loosing air. Coenie and I stopped 6 times to pump up my back weel and then got another tube from team mate Clifford and raced to the end.
Thanks to the team we over came all obstacles to have the best 9 hours of riding in years.
Regards Clayton Hindle (0827777408)

Hello to all the Wannabees
Sunday’s mountain bike outride was attended by 30 plenty riders. Wonderful route and even better weather.
We split into 3 groups and managed to do more than two and a half hours through the the farms and into Eden.
Some riders prayed for flat tyres to rest, and some had them. With the routes being through farms and duwweltjie areas, we suggest having slime in the tubes or go the ultimate tubeless route.
The slow group with me in charge of course got lost despite some local knowledge from Trevor, so if anyone would like to travel on this route again, just ride in the slow group
It was nice to see some of our roadie riders out on M/bikes, looks like Hertzel was the only one in the Road group on Sunday
Ralph will draw up a ‘must’ list for the rides. This will be published on the BLOG.

Mooi Berge MTB Ride Sunday 7.30
hello All
Please note the ride venue for this coming Sunday will be Mooi Berge on the R44. Start time 07:30. The route will be undulating with some climbs and not very technical. We will meander through the vineyards and do some parts of Eeden, then back to Mooi Berge. As per this past Sunday we can split the groups and also do different distances per group.

Hello to all the Wannabees
Our first mountain bike outride for the year was held in glorious weather yesterday. Maybe not as many riders as expected but enough for a start.
Thanks to Ralph and his team
This complimented by a great ride on Saturday on road bikes, also in wonderful weather. Really nice to travel through the wineland area and “smell the roses”
Next Sunday we will host another mountain bike ride which will be a bit more technical. This does not mean that unskilled or new riders must stay away, we will look after everyone.
Meeting place will be at MOOIBERGE FARAMSTALL at 07h00. The route will take us through some wine farms and finally through EDEN and JAMESTOWN
back to the start. Plus minus two and a half hours. This will be the same ride that we did on the public holiday earlier this month.
Next weekend the 100 miler mountain bike race will start in Malmesbury. I know of Clayton, Scott and Theo riding in the event. Good luck to them
We are still trying to hand out the King of the mountain prizes.
Please contact Michel to get hold of your prize.
We managed to hand over the winner’s prize to Coenie before the outride on Sunday.
There are some riders who want to start riding mountain bikes but need a good second hand bike. At this stage we are looking for a medium size hard tail bike for a lady rider. Contact me if you have a bike that fits the bill

Hello to all the Wannabees
I am happy to report that our membership count has broken the 150 number.
This is great as more and more members are making use of the training sessions and out rides. (which sometimes includes a coffee and muffin)
Well done to Tim Butler who despite a flat tyre, managed a fourth place at the ENGEN CHALLENGE in PE
Keep the good news coming, even if it is just a PB
Well done also to all the Somerset Westers who finished the Ironman two weeks ago. Really a special achievement (and a dream for others)
We are rescheduling our mountain bike ride that was washed out last Sunday. Note that the meeting time will be 07h00 at W/Stone village.
The weather report for this coming Sunday also does not look great, but the ride is on. Remember that Ralph and Clayton do not feel cold and wet, so they were the only riders who pitched for the ride last Sunday in the storm!
Our website is in progress and will soon be on the web.
We are also looking at a twitter communication system. Face book is already available.
Please make use of it.
Only one prize winner from the KING of the MOUNTAIN ride pitched for his prize Sunday, so we aim to hand out the rest of the prizes before we start Sunday’s ride, i.e. at 07h00.
Here are the prize winner’s names again

John has sent out a notice to all members re the DC. Except for his team, other riders were slow to react.
We need to establish and get commitment at an early stage as to set up teams and start training in team context.
We have set the 15th of June as a cut off date for team commitment and payment of R150.
Last year we had riders pulling out a week before the race leaving others who trained hard with unfit fill in riders. We want to prevent this from happening again.
Please respond to John, we would like to field at least 4 teams.

Wine to Whales Ride
The weekend of 24 and 25 April saw the W2W (Wine to Whales Ride) take place right on our doorstep and it was great to see so many Wannabees taking part. This is a 2 day event with the 1st day's distance of 73km starting at the Tri Active Centre in Elgin heading out through Oak Valley, Thandi and Lebanon etc - 80% OF THE RIDE WAS SINGLE TRACK. Day 2 consisted of 66 km from Elgin to Hermanus - just amazing.
Some of the locals seen along the way were: Ockie Kruger, Jack Ackerman, Julian Conrad, Billy Swiegers, Giso and Ingo von Petersdorf, Ralf Rudd, Andre van der Merwe, Theo Scibante, Dudley van Rensberg. If I have missed a few I apologise.
A huge thank you to Marianne and company for all their support along the way.
Regards
Anton de Freitas
W2W Info
The goal of the Wines2Whales Pre-Ride was to give riders a taste of what can be expected during the much anticipated Contego Wines2Whales three-day mountain bike stage race, which will take place from 12 to 14 November 2010. This exciting event is already fully subscribed with a waiting list of more than 400 riders.
For more information on the Wines2Whales three day mountain bike stage race, please contact Stillwater Sport & Entertainment on (021) 883 – 2413 or e-mail info@stillwatersports.com or visit www.stillwatersports.com
I came across these 2 Wannabees on day 2, perhaps you recognise them......Andre van der Merwe and Theo Scibante. They were not too happy at the time I reached them as Andre's power was too much for his chain whilst going up a short but steep section and they were in the process of fixing it. The photo was taken just after the repair was completed, needless to say the smiles were back.

Hello to all the Wannabees
I do not know who angered the WIND GODS on Friday, but with the wind only blowing on Saturday and clear windless days on Friday and Sunday, I have to wonder???
Despite all that close on 50 riders arrived on Saturday morning at the weigh in at a windless W/Stone village. Needless to say all changed on the way to Gordonsbay.
A close on 40kph wind had most riders pushing their bikes up stretches of the hill. Some of our riders must have had a dejavu experience from memories of last years ARGUS
Needless to say it made for fun stories over the coffee at DULCE’s afterwards. For some probably the first time that they have had to push their road bikes during a ‘race’
Unfortunately the computer’s battery power was `also blown away so the final calculations and prize positions could not be determined on Saturday. I am thus including the main prize-winners as follows
| Overall Winner Corrected Watts | Coeni Fick | 458.4W |
| Best Wannabee Corrected Watts | Stephan Van Zyl | 455.9W |
| Best Woman Corrected Watts | Charmian Le Feuvre | 418.6W |

| Oldest Wannabee Rider | Alfred Robinson | 64y |
| Lightest Bike | Michel de Clippel | 6.6kg |
PLEASE NOTE
The extended and detailed list is added as an attachment and some figures are also on the BLOG
Big thanks to the De Clippel Family for putting this all together
Thank you also to our prize sponsors. Please support them.
ALL THE SPONSORS NAMES ARE ON THE BLOG. OVER R3000.00 WORTH OF PRIZES WAS GIVEN TO THE CLUB FOR THIS EVENT
The prize giving will be after the mountain bike ride at 10 o clock at DULCE’s next Sunday the 9th of May
MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE
A date has been fixed for our club ride. This will be on the 9th of May.
Details will be on the BLOG later in the week.
The route will take us past the WP league riders so some excitement as well
This ride is for all our members and will not be to technical
Groups for slow medium and fast will be made up
