Hello to all the Wannabees
Well, that seems to be the end of the formal summer training program. To end off, we had our family ride and prize giving
Glad so many could make it to the family ride on Saturday. I think that it went off well despite the bad weather.
Congratulations to all the white shirt winners. Wear it with pride. I think that it is a special achievement to be in the top 5% of your age group or your starting group.
We have so many riders who do well in other races, but do not get acknowledged in my weekly BUZZ. Some people feel uneasy to report that had excelled in a particular race, but that is OK, get the news to me, I like to brag about our club members.
Because the ARGUS is ridden by so many club members (104 out of a possible140 members) we feel that this race is the one to use for prizegiving. We know of others like Johannes Scribante who came second in his age group in the ARGUS mountain bike race, well done. We need info like that. Maybe once more club members participate in a particular race, we could also use that as a measure of achievement. We also know that Petie Viljoen finished the Epic with ex member Fred van Zyl. A great achievent just to finish that ride. I do not know of any other club member who completed this race.
Clayton Hindle will try to arrange mountain bike rides during the winter months on most Saturdays starting from W/S village. Watch for news on the BLOG.
Road bike rides will still start at 07h00 from W/S Village over weekends and on public holidays. So come and join and keep the legs going during the winter.
Thanks to all the members who helped during the past 4 months to make the club function as well as is does. We cannot only depend on the committee to make it work
Next on the agenda is the hillclimb. All the info is on the BLOG
A special thanks to MICHEL for all the work on the BLOG. It is really a special part of our club
The BLOG is full of news. My letter is a reminder to have a good look at the BLOG. Michel puts a lot of effort into this real show piece. Please add comments or send photos and articles. All the details are on the BLOG
I shall be away for 10 days, so no BUZZ next week.
PLEASE NOTE
Winter start time begins now. LSD rides on weekends will start at 07h00
AN URGENT APPEAL ONCE AGAIN TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR M/AID DETAILS AND ICE CONTACT DETAILS ARE IN YOUR SADDLE BAG AND ON YOUR CELL
At the club ride we noticed some members who have not renewed their membership for 2010. If you have not received your membership card, you might have paid but we have not picked it up on the bank statements. Please contact Charles to rectify charlesnesbitt@woolworths.co.za
CLUB REMINDERS
Please remember to order the long sleeve cycling tops from Pieter. Winter is on the doorstep, do not get caught ‘cold armed’
The club will also present a hill climb/king of the mountain handicap race on the 1st of May. We hope to make this an annual event. Please diarise.

Dulce Cafe after Family Ride
After a short (wet) family ride it was time for a hot chocolate and a muffin at Dulce Cafe. Some Wannabees excelled at the Argus and it was an honour for our President to congratulate them and give them a commemorative white shirt.

Hello to all the Wannabees
Two major events happening this week. Firstly our family ride Saturday and secondly only to that, the Epic.
Please look on the BLOG for info regarding the family ride. This replaces the Saturday LSD ride. We had to change to the Saturday doe to the Lourensford ride and the final stage of the Epic that happens on the Sunday. Come and join the benefits of being a club member and get a coffee and muffin at the end.
Our prize winners have been notified and will receive their white tops on Saturday
The Epic can be followed by going to the Epic webpage and then clicking on the live streaming which then shows the progress of the leaders on a real time basis.
Obviously the end at Lourensford with the associated mountain bike rides on the day. It is really worth while going to the finish line
Saturday saw a big group starting off on a mountain bike ride. Thanks to Clayton for coordinating the ride and taking initiative.

Weekly Safety Tip on Bunch Riding
Calling out!
Using hand signals is very useful when pointing out obstacles and hazard along the road. It’s even better if you call out the danger at the same time. Particularly when you need to keep your hands on the brakes to slow down for a red light or a stop it’s much safer to call out “light or robot” instead of trying to brake with one hand and signalling the danger with your other hand!

POST ARGUS FAMILY FUNRIDE
The committee is proud to organise a BIG FAMILY RIDE to thank all the relatives of our members for their patience and support during our Argus training rides.
We invite all kids and wives or husbands to join us Saturday 27 March for a nice and easy ride starting from the Waterstone Village.
For the youngest kids we will ride a short 16km route via the Winery Road and around the route of our Club Race and back to Waterstone Village. This safe route will take about 1h15 and therefore they will leave at 8h00. They will get together at the parking of the Waterstone Village at 7h45 to sort everything out.
The other families will ride the Vlaeberg route. This 50km route is well known to all or members and will take about 2h00 to finish. Meeting at the Waterstone Village at 7h00.
We should all be back at 9h15 and will then have a coffee and muffin sponsored by the club at Dulce Cafe. While we are enjoying this breakfast we will celebrate some of our Club Members with their achievements during the Argus.
This is open to all paid up members and includes safety vehicles to follow the kids.
So don’t miss this fantastic family fun day!

MTB Ride this Saturday
Hi
I am planning to ride on Saturday 20 at 7am from Waterstone on the farms. From Waterstone to Firgrove up to Waterworks and over Kleinwelmoed ect passing the back of Raithby ,over a few farms and turning back at or near Mooiberge farm stall and back. The route is about +/- 30km and very little hills we are planning to ride slow (fun, fun' fun) I ride there regularly and have never had problems with the farmers.
The route I normally ride is a lot longer/tougher this is the easiest part excluding the extra loops.
I have a couple of friends joining us already, any one is welcome and we will ride as slow as the slowest cyclist. We might even stop at Mooiberge for coffee. There should be two mountain bike tandems there as well.
Regards
Clayton Hindle

Argus Results Wannabees
More than 100 Wannabees rode the Argus this year! Congratulations!
Tim Butler was the fastest Wannabee with a time of 3:06:27
Dylan Hattingh finished first of his group! Well done!
Alf and Jack finished again within the first 20 of their age group!
More awards at the price giving at our family ride, Sunday 28th
Hello to all the Wannabees
With the ARGUS now done and dusted we can look forward to some rest until the next big one in November (DC)
Hope that all the riders achieved their goals. I did my PB (which means that it was my first). We have posted the times, of all the riders we could find, on the BLOG. If your name and time is not on the list, please contact us
If you have any special ARGUS stories or photos, please share with the other members. We will post it on the BLOG
Thanks to Charles for going through the whole finishers list and finding all the Wannabee names and getting it all ready in time for the BUZZ. Thanks also to every one who helped with the training program, setting it up, motivating the lazy ones and for those who assisted during the LSD rides. We always need willing marshals.
Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with the families of all the cyclists who died on our roads in the recent past. I hope that this will be the end of the carnage and that the winter will be accident free
PLEASE NOTE
Winter start time begins now. LSD rides on weekends will start at 07h00
I forgot to mention that Charles Nesbitt also competed in his 21st ARGUS. Well done Charles. He joins Jack and Hertzel as members of the 21 club
A few riders were en route to Rooi Els when Lance and other riders were on their way to Arabella. See BLOG for photos.
ON OUR DOORSTEP ONCE AGAIN, WE HAVE THE START OF THE EPIC.
One can follow the race on internet or drive out to a vantage point to see how fast the leaders really are. If you have not done this before, make an effort. It really is worthwhile.
If you always wanted to know why the Sani 2C is such a special ride, read Jack’s report on the BLOG
