DC (Double Century)

Dear Members

The majority of the members are fully acquainted with the DC (Double Century) cycle race whilst some of you have only heard it being mentioned.

The DC is a one day, 200km team event (maximum 12 and minimum 6 persons) per team which is scheduled to take place on Saturday 21 November 2009. The race starts and finishes in Swellendam, routing via Tradouw Pass, Montague, Ashton, Robertson, Bonnievale and returning to Swellendam. The DC can either be raced or cycled at a pace that suits all members of the particular team.

The Wannabee’s are intending to have the following 4 teams participating this year but this could be changed to accommodate as many of you as possible depending on the response to this e-mail.

Mixed racing team consisting of a minimum of 4 ladies. The intended finishing time is 6h45. Your normal “Argus” time (2008 not windy 2009) should be sub 3 hrs.

The Wannabee Better Team of Andre Van Der Merwe, with an intended finishing time of 7h15. Your Argus time should be sub 3h15.

The Fast Social team of John Arnold with an intended finishing time of 7h45. Your Argus time should be sub 3h30.

The Social team of Wendy Botha with an intended finishing time of 9h00. Your Argus time should be +- 4-41/2 hrs

Once we have received your replies and collated the information we will then assess whether we have the correct mix of teams and you will be informed accordingly.

Please note that once you have been allocated to a team the team captain will then be responsible for the training program and training rides. He or she will also give each team member all information regarding the correct nutritional and supplementation necessary for the DC.

As a participant you are expected to participate in as many team training rides as possible but we realise that family and work commitments might interfere. However it is unfair that come the day your team is waiting for a member that has not trained sufficiently and is holding back the team. Heart rate monitors are generally assumed to be a pre-requisite as the team training is based on the each member’s heart rate.

As we would like to finalize the provisional teams as soon as possible, please could you e-mail me direct your name and Argus time, if you are interested in cycling this year’s DC. Please reply to me at
jmca@mweb.co.za

Some team captains have already contacted certain club members but if you are unsure of whether your name is included please e-mail me again.

Kind regards

John Arnold

Good day clubs

We have been experiencing some problems with the online entries. We have therefore extended the closing date till Monday 27 April 09 at 10:00am. I attach a manual form if it is needed. Please take into consideration that the fax number is a private home number, so please do not send faxes later than 8pm at night. Please also try to use the online entry first, manual entry only to be used if really needed.

Kind regards,

30.3.2009.

Hello to all

Easter weekend is due.

No official club rides, but I am sure that if you should arrive at 06h30 at Waterstone, that there will be enough riders to make up a nice group.

Please be safety conscious and supportive of the slower riders.

There will be lots of holiday makers on the road and probably some holiday riders will join the group, make sure that they understand our rules and that we all comply to our own rules.

Due to all the public holidays, no club ride date has been set for April. The committee will meet on the 20th of this month when a plan will be formulated.

I still have the prize ‘white tops’ of the ARGUS prize-winners

Please contact me ASAP

Unless something urgent pops-up, the next newsletter will be after the next committee meeting

Remember to contact us if you want to join one of the DC teams. Give your info via the e-mail address. We also need captains for some teams.

If you still want to join the club, please contact Charles Nesbitt at Charlesnesbitt@woolworths.co.za
