Beste wense

Hello alle Wannabees

Herewith some reminders and news

Our first outride on mountain bikes took off from Waterstone Village Centre yesterday. Two groups went off. The fast group with Petie, with Anton playing catch up, and the others with myself.

We had a great time in the vineyards with, no names mentioned, taking a dive or two and some other finding out what a ‘kontoerwal’ really looks like. This was followed by coffee and muffins at Dulce’s

Wendy found out that trying to impress every one by doing extra Lord Charles hills after the Sat. ride, not really helps to improve muscle strength overnight for the mountain bike outride

The road riders, first of John’s DC rides, joined the coffee and muffin group as well. We will still keep the road section going even on days when the mountain bike groups ride. So do not stay at home.

I had to leave early, so hope all had a good time

Thanks to Petie for laying out the routes.

Please note that the club only sponsors for a coffee and one muffin. The cappuccinos etc. are for your own accounts. Make sure that you get a voucher before ordering your coffee.

Michel de Clippel and Vincent Bergh are going to the Nationals in Oudtshoorn. Please drop me a note if you know of others that are competing

We wish them well

The club rides will still be coordinated on Saturdays and Sundays with the new starting time 07h00 at W/Stone village centre

Please ensure that you have good front and back lights on your bike. There are still some riders with very poor lights on their bikes

Riders who still want to join the DC training groups, contact John via the club e-mail or follow the training schedule on the blog

Dear Members,

Thanks for your response to our recent Double Century (DC) letter.

Following your replies we have allocated everyone to a team either based on an “Argus” time over the last 2 years or to the team that they cycled with last year.

As you can appreciate these are provisional teams only at this stage and once everyone has had a few training rides you are welcome to request that you move up or down based on your own fitness levels and whether there are openings in these teams.

As you will notice from the provisional team lists the greatest number of replies fell into the Wannabee Faster Social Teams where the anticipated finishing time will range from 7h30-8h00.

If you care to check the team numbers you will see that the Faster Social Team #2, the Mixed Fast Team as well as Wendy’s Social team are still short of riders. Each team should ideally have 13-14 riders at this early stage as it is inevitable that people drop out due to various reasons. I am certain that there are club members who would like to ride the DC but have inadvertently omitted to reply. Now is your chance to enter on a first cum first served bases. If you have never cycled the DC now is your chance. There is great camaraderie within the teams and on finishing a great sense of achievement.

Each team captain will schedule there own training programme. However attached please find a provisional training programme that will be used by my team. Should anyone in any team wish to join our training schedule please feel free. You will be expected to train at our intended pace.

I look forward to receiving your e-mail together with your team of choice and an Argus time from this or last year and I will endeavour to allocate you to a team.

Kind regards

John
