Good day to all the Wannabees

Tour de France now behind us and as usual, always a bit of controversy. Good to get the feeling that the doping is not such an issue this year.

Our rugby is still a mess as we go into the home leg of the super 14

The early training rides of the DC are still not well attended. I know that it feels too early to start, but the rides are gentle and will help when the energy levels are pushed later in the program.

Saturday the usual 07h00 start for a LSD ride and Sunday the easier M/Bike outride starting at 07h30 at W/Stone for about two and a half hours of rolling hills.

WPCA had it’s AGM last night. Chris Basson has stepped down and Elton Davids has taken over as chairman. This will be until Febr. next year when CSA will probably change the seen locally. The amalgamation of WPCA, Boland and SWD with PPA is envisaged. We will wait and see.

If some of the members feel like helping in the construction of the M/Bike trail at Schaapenberg, please contact Ralph Rudd, his info will be on the WEB/BLOG. They plan on doing some work this weekend.

Short of that, not much else to report

Please look on web and BLOG for updates

Enjoy your cycling, summer is around the corner.

Leopards in the basin

Due to the current high activity of leopards in the area Nature Conservation and the City of Cape Town has erected numerous cameras along popular mtb and hiking roads in the basin. A new one has just been placed at the bottom of the Gantouw pass as jou step on to the railway line. Please urge all people to not interfere with these cameras, as it is essential that the C N knows the number of animals in the area. Also could they please contact me if they spot any leopard in the area of Sir Lowry’s Pass.

Good day to all the Wannabees

Lovely weekend for riding

Saturday we did a half of a Rooi Els ride in lovely conditions, just have it all messed up by a horrible rugby game and special rendition of new refereeing rules by the ?Irish ref.

Sunday we (+/- 20 riders) tackled the ‘black’ route of the new mountain bike trail.

The ‘recce’ ride turned out to be a ‘wreck me’ ride for some of us. Nearly got Ralph’s dummy for winging the most, but that was nothing compared to the amazing views and wonderful terrain that we rode through. At one stage we were so high up the slopes of Hans se Kop, that Arrie Rossouw lost his bike due to altitude sickness!!

This was then also topped by an excellent win by the South African Louis Oosthuizen at St. Andrews. What a masterful display of calmness and mind and body control.

This mix of single track, rolling hills and stunning views makes this track a winner. Well done to Deon van Zijl, Johann Kriegler and all the others involved in the building of this track and securing the rights to traverse all the farms.

An easier route is also available as to accommodate all levels of riders.

The first DC training ride was held on Sunday. John will report on these rides next week and also put a training schedule out.

Good day to all the Wannabees

Bad weather probably kept most of us indoors this weekend.

For the next weekend we have our usual Saturday group ride but Sunday we will have a M/Bike outride starting at Waterkloof wine cellar at 07h30 sharp.

This route is a new one and is part of the WINE TO WHALES route. It will eventually cater for 3 levels of riders. This Sunday will be a recce type ride which could be technical but if so, escape routes will be available and you will escorted by an experienced rider.

Prepare for 3 hours of riding and some walking where the route has not been completed. Bring sandwiches and enough fluid

Also make sure your tyres are puncture resistant and that you have spares, pump and tubes. Warm clothes will be a good idea

The views will be fantastic and according to those who know, something not to be missed.

A full program for the rest of the season will be posted on the blog and web site.

Three teams are at this stage full for the DC. I shall get John to post them on the web/blog and then you give us a feeling so as to perhaps adding a fourth team

Training will start soon, so watch this spot!

On the website you will see a comments column were members can place requests and make remarks.

This week Adele asks for company on her rides and Steve Trimby gives discount on his merchandise. Have a good look at support our members.

Good day to all the Wannabees

This weekend saw a lot of sport being viewed on TV. With Lance doing a great time on the time trail and the massive falls on the first long day, maybe something to really follow closely this year.

The Knysna seems to have drawn a lot of club riders with only 10 of us on the early ride Saturday. Charles, sorry that we left you behind twice on Saturday. It was the ladies in our group, we just had to show some testosterone to keep up with them!!

If anyone has news or results, please pass them on

Obviously Alf has more charm than me. His group of ladies (en nog) passed us on the way back.

Herewith his e-mail

Hi Danie

Further to your comment last week, Sunday the 27th June was a great MTB ride. Eight riders went on the same route that Ralph had previously shown us.

Thanks Ralph.

This Saturday ten riders passed the early birds looking good. We tried to get back in time to join you for coffee, but too slow! Great effort from Desire & Annemieke for keeping up!

Sunday was a first run for our DC team to meet a pity Ralph did not join us as there was a VERY poor turnout for the MTB.

No mention of time & venue on blog?

Kind Regards

So all and all still some twenty to thirty riders doing their thing.

Unfortunately Sundays M/B ride was not previewed on my newsletter, so only Ralph pitched. He will draw up a formal date program which will be on the BLOG for keeps. Only time and place might change.

Tuesday is the last day for the W/Cup experience. Each and all seems to have enjoyed it. So even if you do not have tickets for the match, go for the ‘jol’

Sadly, a rider was robbed of his bike and cell phone on youth day. See the e-mail I got today

Charles hi,
This morning at church I was horrified to learn from a friend that his son
was robbed of his bicycle and cell phone on his way uphill to Steenbras dam waterworks just past
Gordonsbay by three coloured guys by means of brute force after they drove past him uphill, turned
around and stopped in the middle of the road, got out of the vehicle and told him to hand over his bicycle
and cell phone. He happened to notice when the loaded his bicycle in the back of the vehicle that they had
a different set of number plates ready to change.
This happened on the 16th of June - YOUTH DAY !!!!!

Kindly mention this in your next weekly e-mail so that we all can be aware of this. I for one is a regular
user of that particular route from Somerset West.

Thank you
