Good day to all the Wannabees

Good news, no more 05h30 program!

The DC has come and gone and now some Club members will also do the BURGER next week.

I am fortunate enough to see all the e-mails that Mandy’s team have generated and also those of our team. It is great to see that cycling is sometimes more than just riding a bicycle, there is also a bond that can form between riders in such team events. The final event is just the culmination of all the training, a type of cherry on top

The diversity is amazing. In our team we had it all. Old and young, male and female, multi nationalities, multi religions (plus prayers to a few gods that I have never heard of, that had to answer for not helping during the ascent of the difficult last 5 hills) and I am sure even more permutations that I have not thought of.

We had 3 formal Wannabee teams and also some riders in other teams that were sponsored by various companies.

The times ranged from 7h23 (faster team), 8h35 (social team) to 10h02 (Edunova team).

The riders all accept that the support personal are vital to a team’s success. Officially thanks to all the helpers. The fact that the support vehicles could ride with their teams had pros and cons. It was great to get regular replacement of water bottles and quick tire changes.

Sadly some support vehicles drivers lacked basic understanding of supporting a team on the road leading to some near misses.

We shall place some photos on the WEB and BLOG

Our new committee will have the first official meeting this evening.
More news about that later.

Good day to all the Wannabees

Arrived back yesterday ready to join the breakfast ride and thus do the only training for the week, sadly the winter weather that still prevails has won the battle.

So with the DC 6 days away, no more training will improve your ability now, thus come for the last three early morning sessions and just spin the legs and keep the blood circulating.

Our new committee will have the first official meeting on Monday after the DC. If there is something specific you want us to discuss, please drop us a line or contact one of the committee members and chat to him/her
Main news revolves around the DC

The new membership fees and early year program will be posted on the BLOG and WEBSITE

Good luck to all the people involved during the DC next Saturday. See you all for a beer(s) and pain pills at the end

Good day to all the Wannabees

The AGM was held last night at the Masonic hall in the Strand. Thank you to the 40 plus members who attended. Report back was given of the year’s activities and the state of finances.

A new group of committee members were nominated and voted in. We will during the course of the year have a meeting to elect a chairman and will in this coming year also get new ideas from the new committee members

John Thole gave a brief summary of the EDUNOVA initiative that has up to now raised, through Mandy’s team, more than R30000.00

See on BLOG and WEB for more detail

There will be 13 committee members for the next year. Each will have a roll to fill. More later once we have had our first meeting

The re-elected members are myself, John Arnold, Petie Viljoen, Michel de Clippel, Charles Nesbitt, Anton de Freitas, Pieter Schoeman. New members are Deon van Zijl, Ralph Rudd, Sebastian Miller, Alf Robinson, Clayton Hindle and Derek Henderson.

The pre DC club ride is also in an advance stage of finalising. This will be on the Sunday preceding the DC. Coffee and scones to all the riders at Joostenberg farmstall. Remember that this is a club ride and not only for the DC team members. Please join in.

There will be no M/Bike ride this weekend as most of the comm.. members are involved with DC rides
