Good day to all the Wannabees
This weekend two LSD rides were completed by a large number of riders.
Saturday we did the duwweltjie run through Kuilsriver and yes the nine punctures in our medium group confirmed that this is not a good route at this time of the year
Sunday we had to split into 3 groups and did a modified Bottelary ride. Sadly I have to report that the fast group was involved in a five bike pile up leaving Thierry with concussion and a cut up face.
Accidents like these are terrible and we have to take note that the faster the group, the shorter reaction time will be and the more vigilant we will have to be.
Communication during the ride is of utter importance. Reflex braking in reaction to a flat tyre seem to have caused this pile up. We are putting a set of safety tips on the blog, please pay attention to these.
We also ask the newer riders to listen respectfully if a more experienced rider should give some advice or comment on a possible flaw in your riding style.
We all wish Thierry a speedy recovery and hope to see him back soon
CSA and WPCA
WPCA seems to be back in business. There is a meeting scheduled for later this month which we will attend and report back to you all
South African championships are also to be held in all categories this year. Dates have been finalised and will be coordinated by CSA
CLUB NEWS
Our membership is over 80 at this stage. Thank you to all that have rejoined and also to new members. Must say it is great to see a group of 20 to 30 riders all in club gear. This also means that we have a responsibility to behave like a well managed and sensible group of people while on rides
As part of being a member you will have the benefit of group rides and also a structured training program for the ARGUS.
The 05h30 sessions have started and with only 8 weeks to go, Michel recons that we will have to pull up our socks. We will try to have a committee member in attendance each morning but most regulars know the routine for Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays
We are setting up a pre ARGUS club ride for the 28th of FEB. (Sunday). (Coffee and muffin breakfast.) We have a plan and will accommodate all levels of riders. If there are any other great ideas on what to do that day, drop us an e-mail
Two weeks after we will have our prize giving as per last year. This will be after a family ride and a lekka cup of coffee and a muffin (Once again).
There have been numerous requests for a long sleeve top. Pieter will design one and put on the BLOG. Comments please. It will be made of a different/warmer material.
SAFETY
Please ensure that all your contact details and especially medical aid details are in your SADDLEBAGS in a waterproof container/Type of Ziplock or bank ‘sakkie’.
It will also be imperative to have an ICE number on your cell phone
It is also getting darker. Make sure the batteries in your lights are new
Morning rides
Riders will met for the training program at 05h30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Weekend rides will still start at 06h00
Saturday and Sunday rides will be coordinated as usual from Waterstone village at 06h00.
Please try to wear your Wannabee top on a weekend ride.
