Hello alle Wannabees

Well the cycling activities seem to be slowing down so a lot depends on selfmotivation to keep the level of fitness up.

Yesterday we all joined in the CLUB family ride with the coffee and muffins, sponsored by the club, at DULCES.

Once again very well attended and good behaviour on the road.

Thanks to Michel and all who helped to make the day work so well.

Prizes in the form of a white top with the wannabee logo was handed out to the ARGUS top performers. Dankie Pieter vir die maak van die ‘tops’ op kort kennisgewing.

Those who appologised or could not make it, please contact me to get your prize.

The EPIC has come and gone. A bit of an anticlimax ending as the leading teams just coasted in.The time penalty to Sauser and Stander putting them out of the race. (though still in top ten dispite one hour penalty).

We as the committee will now look at a winter program and try to maintain the idea of a monthly club ride……..so stay fit and get the mountainbikes serviced

Saturday and Sunday pack ride to start at 06h30

Remember to contact us if you want to join one of the DC teams. Give your info via the e-mail adress. We also need captains for some teams.

If you still want to join the club, please contact Charles Nesbitt at Charlesnesbitt@woolworths.co.za

POST ARGUS FAMILY FUNRIDE

The committee is proud to organise a BIG FAMILY RIDE to thank all the relatives of our members for their patience and support during our Argus training rides.

We invite all kids and wives or husbands to join us Sunday 29 March for a nice and easy ride starting from the Waterstone Village.

For the youngest kids we will ride a short 16km route via the Winery Road and around the route of our Club Race and back to Waterstone Village. This safe route will take about 1h15 and therefore they will leave at 8h00. They will get together at the parking of the Waterstone Village at 7h45 to sort everything out.

The other families will ride the Vlaeberg route. This 50km route is well known to all or members and will take about 2h00 to finish. Meeting at the Waterstone Village at 7h00.

We should all be back at 9h15 and will then have a coffee and muffin sponsored by the club at Dulce Cafe. While we are enjoying this breakfast we will celebrate some of our Club Members with their achievements during the Argus.

So don’t miss this fantastic family fun day!

23.3.2009.

Jack Ackerman and myself also then went over to the first water point to see the riders and encourage our local entrants.

Getting fit for the EPIC is one thing, having a bike that is well prepared is another. I am sure that some people do not realise that the horse is as, if not more important than the rider. We helped a rider with two cuts in his tyre, who had used both his gas canisters but did not have a spare tube. Two tubes and three gas canisters later we had him on his bike still trying to make the cut-off time of the first stage.

Allways be on a well prepared bike with enough spares incase of a breakdown. Make sure that your pump works.

The time spent watching all the riders and the rest of the EPIC vibe is something not to miss. Follow the race on the official website and the real-time positions with their google-earth application. Or go watch it live at one of the spectator points.

This coming weekend is the family ride. See BLOG for details. Prizes for some lucky ARGUS riders.

Last weekend we had a good attendance on the club rides. PLEASE COME WITH GOOD LIGHTS AND A SAFETY CONCIOUS MIND. It is dark and cold. Still some ‘three abreast riding’ in the groups, let’s get this sorted out, specially amongst the racers in the front.

The ARGUS race results are still missing some names. If you are a paid up member who rode the ARGUS and your name is not on the result sheet, contact us on the club e-mail, give your time as well and we can update the list.

Remember that all the committee work is done in private time by members with a fulltime day job. Please help by constructive criticism or just help us fix the niggle with positive input.

Otherwise, enjoy the week and be sure to join the family ride this Sunday.

Saturday pack ride to start at 06h30

ARGUS 2009 CLUB MEMBERS RESULTS

Well done to all our club members for finishing the hardest Argus ever! The committee is very proud that 80 club members represented the Club. This is probably the highest percentage of club members of any SA Club.

What we can see is that our youngsters did very well with Jeandré, Tim and Micheal all finishing in the top 20 of their age group. Well done boys!!

We are very proud of our ladies and some of them should join the faster group for the DC as they finished in the top 20 of their age group. Well done Zelda, Claire and Jennifer!

A special mention to our Maillot Jaune Sasha, Alf and Paul as they all showed how fit they are by finishing in the top 20 out of 1000 in their age group. Watch out for these tough guys!

And last but not least let us not forget our tandems. Well done Marc and Floris, Anton and Kathryn!
